In connection with Americas Bicentennial the Philadelphia Phillies wore a patch depicting the likeness of the Liberty Bell on the left sleeve of their jersey. Philadelphia, the Bells home, hosted the All Star Game with the National League prevailing 7-1. On the right sleeve of their jersey the Phillies commemorated the centennial of the National League. Tug McGraw, who was a member of the 1969 World Champion New York Mets, arrived in Philadelphia in 1975. McGraws lightheartedness and love for the game helped push Philadelphia to a 101-61 record. In 1980, McGraw would record the final out of the World Series, helping Philadelphia win their first-ever World Series title.
